Course Description

This class is a hands-on baking class where students will learn by doing! Each week, our lesson will take us from preparation through the completion of an entire recipe using easy to find ingredients and minimal kitchen equipment. Families should purchase supplies ahead of time, and students should be prepared to cook at the beginning of each class. We will review kitchen and food safety for each meeting and discuss ingredients, equipment/tools, and possible recipe alternatives. I will demonstrate each step of the cooking process, ask and answer questions, and check in with students at each step. The goal of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to learn new skills, try new recipes, and build self-confidence in the kitchen through the preparation and sharing of delicious food. Students who love to cook can meet others who share a love of cooking and be part of a supportive community of learners. **Students can enroll in all sessions but each session needs to be enrolled in separately.** Session 1: Buttermilk Biscuits Thursday, September 21; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm With just 6 ingredients, learn how to make these melt-in-your-mouth, buttery biscuits completely from scratch! Session 2: Banana Bread Scones Thursday, September 28; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Learn how to make banana bread scones, a crunchy on the outside, slightly sweet baked good with a delicious brown butter icing! Session 3: Jalapeno Cheese Tortillas Thursday, October 5; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm These homemade flour tortillas are tender, soft, and flavorful. The jalapeno adds a little kick but not the heat ~ or choose to leave it out and they'll still be delicious! Session 4: Yeast Rolls Thursday, October 12; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Who can resist the smell of freshly baked, warm rolls? Join in as we make soft yeast rolls, the perfect addition to any meal. Session 5: Focaccia Bread Thursday, October 19; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Learn how to make focaccia, an Italian flatbread that is delicious on its own or baked with a variety of toppings. Session 6: Soft Pretzels Thursday, October 26 ; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Skip the line at the local mall and learn how to make soft, buttery pretzels that are irresistible right out of the oven! Session 7: Monkey Bread Muffins Thursday, November 2; 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm Learn how to make this sweet, pull-apart bread in the form of a muffin with layers of butter and cinnamon sugar goodness!
