Course Description

If you love to read, discuss and explore literature, then this is the book club for you! We will be reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond, By Elizabeth George Speare. Students will work in groups to discuss the characters, plot and theme using a literature circle format. Each student will be actively engaged and working with their peers to share their ideas and contribute to the book club. Homework/Time Commitment: The online book club that I am planning on teaching will incorporate various activities that the students can do at home or on the computer. I will be using Literature Circles for our discussion and group work time. I plan on having weekly meetings that last for 60 minutes where we will be discussing the assigned reading, going over new jobs and learning to work with each other in a virtual environment. Each student will be assigned a Literature Circle job to do at home during the week and then share the next week with the class. Jobs are: Discussion Leader, Real Life Connector, Word Wizard, Imaginative Illustrator, Star Summarizer, Character Catcher. It will be expected that the students will come prepared with having completed the assigned reading and ready to share their job and participate in the discussions and group work. Each book will follow the same type of format for the online book club during each session. My goal is to introduce the students to different genres and author's perspectives.
