Course Description
What the Class Is: In this one-day Thanksgiving adventure, students will explore the meaning of gratitude, discover what historians know about the 1621 harvest gathering, and compare foods and traditions from long ago with Thanksgiving celebrations today. How Students Will Participate: Students will investigate mystery-basket clues, explore a map, sort past and present foods, listen to an original interactive story, play movement and guessing games, create a gratitude placemat, and share one tradition or person for which they are thankful. Outcome/Benefit: Students will develop beginning social studies and literacy skills while practicing observation, comparing past and present, sequencing, listening comprehension, speaking, and gratitude. They will learn that Thanksgiving can hold different meanings and traditions for different families and communities. Supply List for Students: Printed activity pages provided by the instructor Pencil Crayons, markers, or colored pencils One sheet of blank paper
